I've tried alot of tips and tricks to stop driftwood leaching tannins.......None of them work!!! Well they didn't for me anyways.........

I decided to try Purigen. A tip from member Gran Charismo.
I should have been on to this stuff ages ago.

It doesn't stop the driftwood from leaching tannins but so far it's looking good in clearing them from the water.

I used 15 grams per 15 gal tank. Had no mesh bags to put it in so I went out and bought a pair of stockings!!!
How embarrising!!! :headshake Cut into strips and tied the ends to make little baggies. Filled with the Purigen & put inside my little filters...

2 lots of Before and After pics. First pic was at the start of my test. The second pic is after 24hrs. There has been a noticable difference in the water colour. Don't worry about the focus.......just look at the colours man :headbang2

Also.......in my tanks that arn't effected by tannins, they are super crystal clear!!! Seems to be really good stuff, the Beez Kneez so to speak.....
Hopefully in a few more days the Tea colour will go away completely....

one of my tanks is alot worse than the first pic, i soaked the wood for a few days, and the water is very brown even with 3 fluros on. the fish s=don;t seem to mind, anyway they are from blackwater lakes. where did you get your wood from? where in nsw are you located?

At the LFS. It's 2 pieces stacked to make a tunnel.
On the Central Coast.......:headbang2

Your purigen will keep absorbing tannins until it is pretty much black. When I used it I found it could turn a black tank crystal clear. I used it to get rid of the worst discoloration when adding in new driftwood. Don't bother too much now as the worst of the leaching is done.

Purigen also absorbs ataxanthins, mine is red every month

and here i am constantly on the hunt for new driftwood so i can keep one of my tanks nice and tea colored
