So this may be a noob/rookie question, I've recently got back into the hobby, an have never had a planted or used driftwood in my tank... Has anyone used Driftwood that releases tannins? I've read this is bad for the biological bacteria you gain during cycling?? Then again. That doesn't really sound right?? Because I used balckwater extract (that contains tannins) on my last schoalof p's?? So need a little guidance... It is much appreciated!!!!

The tannins from driftwood can prevent normal beneficial bacteria from growing/functioning if the ph (believe <6)is too low. But eventually low ph bacteria will grow and cycle the tank. Usually the pH swings have to be careful of. The tannins do help fish though.
