Hi all,

I have boiled all my small pieces for an upcoming build, but I have 2 pieces that are just too big to fit in any pot. The new tank is a 180 and I have 2 perfect pieces (22 x 20 x 18) that I just can't boil. I have had them soaking in a wheelbarrow for the past 3 weeks, changing the water daily, but it doesn't seem to make a bit of difference. Any ideas here? The new tank is coming next week and I would love to use the 2 bigger pieces...

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you're trying to sterilize them, then bake them in the oven. Otherwise, I'd just keep soaking them so they're sinkable when the new tank comes.

Thanks for response COG.... The wood certainly sinks, and I think that they are growing a nice bio filter (well water), but the tannin release it just too much for me... I would love a clearer tank set up... I don't want it looking like a large cup of tea...

You'll just have to change the water more often than normal. Most wood takes a long time to leach the majority of the tannins out.

Also try adding some purigen and carbon to your filter, should help cut back some of the tannins as well...

Run hot water in tour bathtub and get a thick scrub brush. Do that about 3-4 days for 10-15 minutes and you will see a big difference
