Hi All,

I have received some old driftwood from a friend that used to have it in his Discus tank. It was in his garden for 2years or so...
How can I treat it in order to put in in my tank without the water colour or condiytions changing..

PLEASE HELP>>>>>

clean it off, scrub it down, boil it if possible. if its to big to boil you can do what i did and boil water and dump it in the tub with the drift wood. that way you can kill any harmful bacteria. then it will take a while to completely sink but you can always weigh it down with rocks. good luck

Wash it off and drop it in, lol, thats what I do. GO NATURAL!!! If you're really worried scrub it a little, use some bleach even. Let the bleach evaporate from it though before you put it in the tank, so let it sit for at least one day.

I currently have in in a large bucket outside for the past week now changing the water daily I scrubbed in once already. Will it still change the water colour to that yellow colour?
Or does that go away with time, the wood has no issue with sinking

I will try the boil thing If I get a pot big enough :)

Thanks A MILLION for your replies

if its still turning the bucket yellow every day its going to do to the same thing to your tank. If you want to put it in your tank go ahead but it will be yellow. If you can wait then just keep doing what you're doing until it stops making the bucket in the water yellow.

It will go away in time. Boiling will speed it up. It will not hurt your fish.

It will never go away until the wood goes away. It will, however, lessen with time. The only way to completely prevent it would be to seal the wood. It doesn't harm the fish, and some people even like the look of the yellowed water.

Cool, How do they seal the wood?

Normal wood sealant that you buy at the hardware stores?

uhhhhhhhhhh why do you need to seal the wood?
