i bought some mopani driftwood soaked in boiling water and attached
java fern to it looks tight its been in my 220 for about a month now and
my water is really brown ive added carbon to maybe absorb it but just not doing any good right after a water change its a little clearer but
next day its brown again i really love the look of this wood has anyone had this problem and found away to solve it

Use Purigen, it will remove the discoloration until the Purigen needs to be recharged. I was getting about 2 months before a recharge when my driftwood was still leaching.

It will always leak some tannins, if you've not got a pot big enough to boil it in put it in a bath and keep topping up using a kettle

what is purigen did wood ever stop leaching tannins

I use Mopani wood in my 30 gallon tank. Initially I didnt care because it was just going to be a darter tank with no plants thus brown tint didnt bother me.

However added plants and didnt want the brown tinge thus also use PURIGEN.

Purigen is a product that absorbs the woods brown tannic acid and keeps the water sparkling clear its made by Seachem. I found out about here months ago and LOVE it. I just buy 100 ml bag and rinseit/place it in my filter.

My plants have also grown great not a drop of algae due to the purigen but again the brown color is gone.

Yes it leaches for looooong time lol .

I have some in back yard pvc 90 gallon fire mouth cichlid pond and over year later still leaches but in their case I want it to as water ph here is over 8.0

I have found that it just takes a LONG time. I have a planted tank with a few pieces of wood. It took like 6 months plus a lot of carbon to get it looking clear. I also boiled it really well before adding to my tank.

Just be patient. I'm sure it will look awesome!

I bought a piece at Petco for a 10 gallon and haven't seen any changes in water coloration. I wonder if they already treated it?
