Found some nice pieces of diftwood from the beach. instead of spending $40 for one i figured i could just clean a piece. Can i just clean it? and if so how? Do i bleach it or something? and how do i get them to sink, can i soak them in water for a few days until it becomes waterloged and sinks?

boil it ^^

(metal trash can and a bond fire for a bigger piece)

could i freeze it instead? my parents arent gonna let me have a bonfre and a metal trash can to boil water

lol:ROFL:

take a bath with it then..bring a potato scrubber.

however, if u don't have a fetish for wood u could always get a bucket with an air tight lid and put the wood in their with boiling water. the air tight lid will keep it boiling for a while. make sure u have a good lid and bucket.

^ i did this with my wood. worked like a charm!

but u have to do it many many times.

can u give me an example? cause i dont have to many air tight buckets in my house cant i just poor boiling water on it? cause its about 3 feet tall. and are we talking about cleaning it or getting to to sink?

nvm i heard u have to boil it forever and put it in water for weeks and on top of that it usaully still turns the water brown

yeah, I was going to say that also. even if you did go thru the hassle & all the foreign buggers are deceased & if does get to sink, you may encounter rotting & that will mess up your water.

well worth spending $20 for 12-18" piece that has already been "conditioned"

Don't use pieces from the beach because it will have salt content up it's ass and getting all that stuff out is going to be a royal pain. plus beaches and their waters aren't the cleanest places on our planet. I'd just spend a few bucks on a conditioned piece of wood, but bear in mind you still have to boil it because it will still leech tannins.

I have pieces of driftwood that I found from Lake Erie beach. I've been using those 4 pieces for roughly 2 years now, and all I had to do was soak it for a day or 2 with hot water. That's it.
Everything has worked out fine.

i have 2 10 inch pieces that i rinsed off that i found in nor cal and put them directly in with my sa. nothing happend
