OK, need some clarification - I would love to have driftwood in my tanks but find it's another expense that I can't afford (too far from the coast to colloect it myself) but I do have lots of trees in my yard with dead fallen or trimed branches just lying around, can these be used?
I kow they would need soaking in salt water to kill off any bugs/bacteria (or boiling if small enough) but wanted to ask if anyone has any experience of using 'fallenwood' instead of 'driftwood'?

Hahah, I just found this thread too and was about to post.:) If you have any other questions, private message me and I should be able to answer you or direct you to the answers.

I use fallen oak branches all the time with no problems. I just use a utility razor knife to cut the bark off and drop it in the tank (I don't mind tannins). Make sure the wood you pick out is not soft or wet and everything will be fine.

Fallen Oak branches is exactly what I was thinking, need to tidy around my house before the winter sets in here so now is a good time to gather some.

Thanks for the offer, I'll PM when I have questions (bound to be some!).
