ok i got some new driftwood and now it has white fuzz growing on it. i did soak it in verry hott water for a few days and scrubbed it clean. so what should i do? do i need to take it out of the tank and clean it again? or can i get some shrimp that will eat the stuff? also will it harm my fish? been checking water perams and everything is good. also the tank is a 36g bowfront and i have 2 whisper 30-60 in tank filters running in it.

Many different plecos will get this stuff right off the wood. Its not going to hurt the water or fish. If you don't want to wait until your fish or if you get shrimp to eat it all. Then you can just remove the wood and it will easily wash right off.

I don't know what you had but I had something similar that grew so thick it clogged a penguin 400... No fish were in the tank because it was new but I would say a pleco over a shrimp as well

It won't harm your fish.. and sometimes it will even come back after removing it yourself.. I've noticed that mollies and gouramies love the heck out of it..and snack on it all day.... and remove a lot of it.. .

thanks for the advise i may try a pleco or some shrimp to get the stuff off. prolly shrimp cuz the 2 fish in the tank are RBP so i think a pleco wont last

I doubt the shrimp would last with RPB.

Betting those shrimp wont even last for an hour with the RBPs. LOL
I dropped in 10 small shrimp in my C.Micro's tank, they were gone in less than 10 mins. :grinno:
