Driftwood!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i dont use driftwood that doesnt sink on its own, just frusterates me. stick to quality malaysian driftwood, mopani and manzanita and it should sink on its own, some takes up to a month to water log though. checkout manzman or something like that on the vendors list, seems to always have great manzanita

Oh okay, thanks! The stores around me don't carry driftwood so I have to order online. My problem is, if I only order one piece online i'm not sure what i'll end up with.

thats why manzman... manzanita-driftwood.com isgeat pick your individual pieces. greenleafaquariums also has nice malaysian driftwood

some people hot glue onto slate, some use screws in slate/granite, some use fishing line to a rock. Sometimes the air works its way out of it and sinks on it's own after being submerged. But don't count on that, I forcibly submerged mine for 3 months and it didn't change a thing. It still releases air bubbles even 2 years later.

As far as that driftwood, if it's not you could probably make it safe. Simply by pouring boiling water on it a few times to kill any microbes that are on it.

After that, it may leech a little, or a lot, or no tannins into your water making it darker, and may lower ph.

Well I was going to go with mopani, but now i'm reading that it leeches a ton of tannis. Is this true?

most driftwood will leech tannins, boiling the wood first will help lots and running carbon in your filter will help remove it. blackwater is a look many try to achieve, but if it isnt your thing it is easy to control unless you have tons of "fresh" driftwood
