Hey all, I live on the banks of the Ohio River. There are plenty of really nice stumps and wood that wash up all the time and I was wondering, can I use this in my tanks? I know I'd obviously have to boil it. But, if I boiled it and did water changes on it in a bucket to release tannins, could I use it?

If they're too big to boil (or you don't want to waste the gas/electricity) I'd just soak them for a month or two and change the water regularly, then give them a good scrub and rinse with boiling water before putting them in the tank. Make sure they're a good strong hardwood and aren't rotting (or clean/remove any rotten bits as they'll foul the water).
