Okay since my plants are SOMEWHERE in the mail.. I was wondering, about driftwood and things people use as far as wood to accent the tankscape..

I have many old, long dead, dried up cedar trees on my property, as well as other trees.

I've gotten mixed information on using cedar roots etc in a tank. Some say NO NO NO its toxic and it will kill everything, some say "look at my beautiful planted tank with fish" it's fine.
I've gotten the same mix on the type of cedar as well..

I guess my question to you would be, why risk it?
There’s lots of other choices of driftwood.

I would guess there may be a circumstance that cedar may work.
But given the known anti bug, anti fungal, anti bacterial, anti rot and water resistant properties of cedar, why even take the chance?

PetSmart sells medium mopani for $10 or something... gonna take 14 days to get to you but order like 10-20 mediums depending on how big ur tank is and build what you like ?

Manzanita branches will last years submerged.
I got mine here

They always have a buy 2 get 1 free of equal or lesser value.
Two years ago when I got them

Two years later, a little furry but still strong as day one

I was just wondering, because some of these root areas are just so dang cool looking and would be so awesome in a tank. But as you stated, if it's not safe I wont risk it obviously.
I just couldnt find a definitive yes or no and trusted this site more than my random google searches.

Any coniferous tree wood is unsafe. Oak, manzanita, alder, maple, willow are all safe. Saturday is coming and if you can get out into the desert there is a smorgasbord of choices. If you have time to get up to Holbrook there is the petrified forest and you could collect petrified wood.
