I’m looking at buying a 240 gallon tank for my two peacock bass and I found one on marketplace. The seller said it is drilled but the holes are sealed with bulkheads and that it doesn’t leak. I am not familiar with drilled tanks so if someone could explain what that means and if it’s safe that would be a huge help.

Bulkheads are the pvc adapters that are pretty much required to use holes in your aquarium. They come in different sizes, mount onto the holes and then tighten down to seal, then you can attach plumbing to either side. The fact they are included is good, but not a big deal since they are fairly cheap to replace.

Drilled tanks are meant to have a sump as filtration.
Sumps can be anything that holds water a barrel, an old tank, Rubbermade tubs or stock tanks, etc etc.
The water flows out of the drilled holes by gravity, and is pumped back to the tank in a continuous cycle.
It allows you to put unsightly gear like heaters, pumps, media out of the main tank.

Anything can be a sump, as long as it holds water.
Below a 1,000 gal pond used as a sump, for a 55 gal aquarium.

the 55 was drilled in the back.
