Already in the process of doing a search on this site and google in general but figured by the time I find my answers someone here might be able to help me out a lot quicker - still searching as even if a post doesn't answer my question it's always informative.

Anyways, getting a new 125 Gallon tank and for $100 I can get it drilled, questing being what are the pros and the cons to having it drilled vs using an overflow box.

My biggest tank thus far has been a 55 Gallon and have only used HOB filters on it. So rather excited to explore a whole new world so to speak of this hobby.

Thanks

Drilling a tank is a much better solution than an overflow box. First of all, you don't have to worry about losing your syphon and flooding your house. I think a drilled tank is more aesthetically pleasing - no bulky overflow box. It is easier to have a nice tight-fitting lid without the overflow to work around.

The only advantages to an overflow box are cost (not all that big of a savings) and convenience (quick and easy to set up, but more maintenance in the long-run).

I would definitely get the tank drilled if I were you.

Good luck with your first "BIG" tank!
