IN A PLACE
I just got my new monster and it has a 1.5" bulkhead fitting that goes to a sump. I want to make that hole larger to accept a 2" fitting. I have the hole saw (drill bit) but my question is if there is a trick to drilling over an existing hole.

THANKS!

Also, the tank is half full. I wanted to drill with water in the tank (the overflow is not in use and the section being drilled is dry. will drilling with water in the tank cause a problem? The acrylic is 1" thick...

hmm that's gonna be tricky. those hole saws need a pilot hole to steady the bit, otherwise it may bounce around and skip all over the place. What if you try placing a block of wood on the inside, so that the pilot drill bit has something to grab on to while the hole saw gets to work?

if you used a diamond drill bit then you can angle it and not need the pilot hole as with the hole saw

Glue a temp piece of acrylic/plastic/etc under the hole you want to enlarge, then use a hole saw of the size you want in its place...Thinking about it, even putting a cork/plug in the hole would work too..

A hole saw will walk all over unless you create a pilot hole first, so you need to fill in the existing hole with something first so the pilot stays put.

Sure, just keep a net handy to scoop up the tiny pieces that will fall into your tank. I've had to cut away parts of my top panel to reach fish stuck in my overflow, what i didnt get with the net the filter picked up..
