I am thinking about getting my 55 gallon tank drilled soon. Is there anyhing i should know or look for? I know VERY little about doing this but i know i want to use a wet dry filter and have had allot of problems with syphon overflows. im thinking i should put the hole close to the top about 2in away frow the rim and prolly 4in from the side. will this be ok? also what size hole? type of bulk head? Etc.. Can any glass place do this or should i get someone specific? Im in Louisiana

Also thinking of doing this to my 125g myself.
Make sure the panel your going to drill, or have drilled is NOT tempered.

yes all i know as well is make sure it's not tempered.
other than that i would ask a local glass shop what kind of bit and all u needi believe u need a diamond tip bit very xepensive

ahhh there is also a new type of glass cutter that can make any size circle that would be cheaper and i bet it would work great

GPH to the size yo tank i use a 2 inch dia hole if u plan on putting it one the back wall i would say 450gph about

here is a overflow calculater for you http://reefcentral.com/calc/drain.php
that way you can match your overflow to whatever pump you want to use
take note when using a bulkhead the hole you need drilled will be bigger than the actual overflow diameter for instance if you want a 1 inch bulkhead then the hole size needed to be drilled for the bulkhead is 1 3/4 inch
most websites that sell bulkheads will tellyou what size hole they fit
good luck

thats a cool site but .88 inch sounds to small, mayb they calculate by being fully submearged if in the back wall u only want a 1/2 or 1/4 even submearged i think this wouls cannge it

yes the more i look at that site they r talking a bottom drill

would it hurt anything to go bigger? im using a mag drive 7 pump it's 700gph at 0 head so i figure at 4ft head it's 480gph. using the calc from above it says i need a 0.9in hole. Would it hurt anything to go with say a 1.5in hole? also am i correct in thinking that i will be able to adjust the water level slightly by moving the intake of the bulkhead from upright to slanted? are there any certain brands of bulkheads i should use or are they all the same?
