I'm about to order my glass for the bottm of my 225, and I'm having the holes drilled from the place I'm buying it. How many overflows should I have? I was thinking either one in the middle, or one on each side.

There is a great book called Aquatic systems engineering by P.R. Escobal with a CD which can calculate what u want. U can however empirically calculate what u need if u follow the minimum ie. sump 20% of tank volume and that all water pass the filter 2 times per day. This being said u will realize that almost any over flow rated to ur 225 gals will work fine. Two is always better so i would plumb the over flows at either end.

All the water passes the filter 2 time per day?!!!!! :headshake It need to be more like 4 times per hour or more.

THis size tank will need at least two 1" drains so that would be two 1- 3/4" holes. I personally would put one at each end.

My 300gal has 2 one inch returns and they can't keep up with the pump so I had to restrick the pump output. I'm going to change the returns to atleast 1.5 inch and will prob go with 2 inch.

I like to filter the water in my tank 8 to 10 times an hour. 300gal..... 2 to 3 thousand gal an hour.

Works good for me.

So what pumps are you using on the 300?
