That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. I am sure if you ask another employee at that shop that you will get a different answer. Standard bits can drill one inch from each side, and if that isn't enough, bits can be bought in five and ten inch long "core" bits.

Anyone that works with granite, etc. (counter tops and such) can also drill glass. At least the tools are the same anyway. The know how is a little different and they will probably shy away from it.

The drill bits are now really cheap and the know how isn't all that involved. Look through my threads for the one on glass drilling. It has all you need to know.

Thinking about it, that shop must be staffed with idiots. Glass permanantly heat stresses if it is drilled without coolant or if the bit is allowed to heat (not being cleaned during operation). That is glass cutting 101, and if they don't know that then you shouldn't trust them with your tank. Educate yourself and do it right.

I know how to do it but i dont want to mess up my tank, the first place i called didnt know how bid 63 mm was and when i said just over 2.5 inches he said ohh yea i got one of them bits but how thick is the glass?

the second place said they couldnt do it either/
