Hey all,
I am currently in the middle of making a home made wet dry filter for one of my tanks. I have an box frame that I am going to drill and use as my drip tray. But I am unsure what size to drill the holes to get even water distribution over the entire drip tray.

Background
Running an Eheim 1262 for my return pump. which is rated at 898 gph, but I have about 3' of head loss. With a 1" drain feeding the drip tray.

My drip tray is 11"x14". I will be using peg board to lay out my holes so I will have a hole every inch or so for a total of about 117 holes.

My question is, what size should I drill the holes to handle the flow, but distribute the flow over the entire drip tray?

Nobody???

I am even willing to do the math if someone will point me in the right direction of a formula that will help me figure it out!

If you have to "wing it", you could start small and see how that works. Can always drill them bigger if you need to. I've read that a good rule of thumb is to start less than 1/8" and then test it. You want the tray to have some amount of standing water so all the holes get used and evenly distribute the water. Like I said, this is what I've read. I'm no expert. In fact I'm in the midst of designing my first wet dry filter myself.

Good luck.

Can be hard to find in some areas, but plastic peg board has been used by many.
Saves allot of drilling.
Never tried it, but stacking 2 drip plates, with the holes offset from each other, could give the most even dispersion.
Just a thought.
