For reasons beyond my control, the only way for me to get the most circulation through my tank and filtration system is to lower my drip plate in my sump so that it rest directly on top of my plastic sponges that i use as media. Otherwise I'm forced to highly restrict my pump so that water isn’t splashing all over the place. Is their any problems with having the drip plate resting on top my media? Thank you!

Here's mine sitting right on top of the bio-balls. On top of the drip plate is filter floss, super easy to change out and that cuts down on the splashing too.
Bio-balls are strong and can support the weight. As the filter starts getting clogged it starts holding water and pushes down on the bio-balls. Maybe yours will be crushed?

My drip tray is also sitting on top of my bio balls....
I haven't had any trouble... :)
I had to put some Bio Balls in the basket for the 2" pvc clearance in the back,
The bio balls help hold down my filter material...
