have questions for some expert drip system for you... i have this 300 gal and a sump that's 125 gals.. i would like know if i add a drip system where shall i add them and where shall i install the drain.. major problem is that my drain is 15 feet away and the tank 5 feet high with the sump setup to the ground with lowest water level no more than 12" inches.. if i setup the drip in the sump i think i need to buy a condensation pump to the pump out to the drain.. what you think?? here is a link to my 300 setup...http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?552299-300-deep-dimension

Setup the incoming water to drip into the main tank and put the drain in the sidewall of the sump. I did not notice but was your sump glass or acrylic.

Drain and drip into the main display. You will have to figure out the exact height to place the drain where it will let a little water drain, just above the normal water line. Plan for a 90 degree elbow to adjust the height. For the drain it will be easy. Plan 1 inch per 4 feet of drop all the way to the drain is the requirement to keep a nice little flow.

I understand I.need to drip into show tank but how shall I drain out the exxcess water? Problem is that the sump is sitting on the lowest point of the house's drain system already.

If I drain from show I don't think.it will work since my 300 has 2 internal overflow towers. Controlling the 90 degree elbow it wouldn't help.. since only place the water will lower is @ the sump but not on the display tank.. if I lose the drip I will burn out my pump in sump.

I am going to be bold and hijack the thread. I appoligize, but my situation is similar. I have a 240 in one room and my sump and 700 in another. No water where 240 is. Shared sump. I am going to set up a drip into the 700 soon. Planning on 150 gallon a day drip. Will I still need to do a seperate water change on the 240 ? It gets about 3000GPH. Filtration is a K1 moving bed. Sorry OP and thanks.

It doesn't matter where the drip is, but the drain will not work in a tank with an overflow. You are correct, the drain must go in the sump.

Really? So if I put the incoming line next to my drain that is ok?:screwy:

To the OP I am still trying to find a thread from some time back on a situation similar to yours.

Most of us with drip systems try and locate the point of drip entry as far away as possible from the drain. On my tanks, the drip enters from the top of the tank on the opposite side of the overflow. The drain is located in the sump. It is also helpful to have the drain in case of a power outage, pump failure,m and/or broken check valve.

To the OP: would it be possible to install a wye on your current drainage system so that you can run a drain line from your sump?
