So how do i run a drip system on my 518 gallon tank??? Do i out an overflow in the sump??? I don't see how it would work if i put it in my main tank because the drips would just go thru the overflow to the sump, so if i put the overflow in the sump that should work?? But would the pvc overflow stay primed???

I think i read that the common DIY PVC over flow wont hold prime in very slow drip applications, but there is another design that i saw rallysman post that can be applied to drip systems. your other option would be to drill your sump for an overflow, or use a pump triggered by a float switch.

k well there is no link, i am using a 50 gallon rubbermaid, and aslo running it thru a 5 drawer rubbermaid tower thing, so there will be lots of bio and mechanical, i am also running an Fx5 and may add another 50 gallon rubbermaid for a second sump off the second overflow that i have capped right now, the sump will be running about 2500gph, so i think one might do, the tank is going to be pretty lightly stocked

Anyway i guess i could just drill the rummermaid, and use a cement or something and put a bulkhead in??? That would actaully not be to bad i could just run a small tube out of it to a drain sounds good??

O one more question how do i add another water line in my house??? The tank is in the room beside the kitchen so i could just tee off the hot and cold water lines and plump them to the other room, will i need to add the hot water if i am only dripping 1 or 2 gallons per hour??? Thanks for all the help people just wanna make sure i do it all right the first time.

Regarding the link, just go to the DIY forum and it should be one of the stickies by eh121. bulkhead idea thru the rubbermaid will work, i've had to use a spacer with the bulkheads i used since the walls of rubbermaids are so thin.
Regarding the hot water drip. Personally i am dripping pure cold water. at the drip rate im going 1 gph per tank, my heaters are able to keep up with the cold drip and maintain a constant 82-84 degree temp.

good to know i am sure cold will be fine as long as i get good heaters, and enough wattage

^^:iagree: ^^

You can use an ice maker hookup w/ the self-piercing valve and flexible poly hose since it's just a drip.

You can even use the carbon filter for it.

I have one tank running the drip system via a diy overflow and one is running with a hole drilled in a rubbermaid tub the way you are planning on doing it. Both ways work great. The drip has been running for close to a year now with no problems. In the begin I had to adjust my heaters slightly to compensate for the cold water coming in. I am dripping 4-5 gallons per hour so you may not have a problem with the slower drip.
