People who have their cichla tanks on drip system, can you please answer the following two questions for me?

1. What is the gallons per hour rate of dripping in your tank?
2. What is your total water volume in the system (tank + sump etc)?

Thank you. Just need to arrive at a proper value for my tank and would love some actual figures.

What someone else is dripping should not reflect what you should drip, everyone has diffrent things. What you should be putting into consideration is, YOUR total gallons, how much bio load YOUR tank as, and how much gallons YOU want to change a week.

For instance, if you have 1000g system, and in a week span, you wanna do a 50% WC, thats 500gl WC a week, so that roughly 71gl per day, have it run like that for a couple weeks and do a water param check, if its not handling YOUR bio load, up the GPD. If your doing fine, try dropping the GPD (for the sake of a smaller water bill) and see if params are ok. If they are, then good, if not, obviously up the gpd again. You have to find a balance between cost and the health of your fish. Once youve acheived that your good, until you add more fish lol.

I know your asking how much gallons in ones system, and how much theyre dripping, but my point is if you find someone who has the same gallons as you, does not mean you should drip the same amount, they might have more or less bio load than you, which is why you need to just start it and adjust it so suit your needs.

I agree with the above. Each system and especially fish load and feeding habits are different. I run a drip but it's something completely different than most as I also drip hot wanted to heat the water. Don't worry about the amount of water your going to drip. Just get the system setup you will be very happy after doing so.

Guys I know I should tune it up to my system w.r.t. flow rate considering my bio load etc. But those who have the drip system going can you please share the info that I requested, Please?

Okay. I've set it up to drip 1.8 gal/min, which should give me around 300g/week fresh water. My tank + sump volume is about 280g so I'll get about 100% change over in a week. Would still love to hear figures from others who has a system running.

1255 gallons ish. Was 250 gallons a day. Just lowered it a little. Nitrates were steady 5. But if I remember I'll check when I have a chance this weekend and see what I drip exactly for you.
