What is a drip system? do you still have to do water changes if you have one?

rallysman has a good one on here too..... you will need to do gravel vacs every once in awhile but a drip system is a auto water changer

Sure it will, if you put enough new water in to displace the same amount of waste than if you were to remove it. You need to account for the fact your essentially mixing new and old water with a drip. Here's a calculator.

Another thing to consider is with a drip system, you also have to drip enough new water to equal the amount of water you want to change PLUS THE AMOUNT THAT EVAPORATES.

I set up a drip in a big open sump, and I turned it off for a couple days. I was surprised how much water evaporated out everyday.
