I went to look at a cheap red aro tonight, about 30cm long, and it looks like the right eye is starting to push out at the top. The guy said "it only does it sometimes", but in the 20 minutes we were there it was always looking down. Is it likely to be the start of drop-eye? I know its not as common in asians as it is with silvers, but I presume they can still get it. Is it more common with lower grade fish? The price is about as good as it gets (just over half what they retailed for when they were imported about 8 months ago), but I don't want to be stuck with a fish with drop-eye...

Did you manage to get a pic while you were there?

You pay for what you get....if it's at a low price, he's probably having a hard time selling it because of the DE.

I'd pass and spend your money else where. BTW..I have seen asian Aro's with drop eye so it's not impossible.

I dont know i'd still go for it cus its still an asian aro and if its being kept in conditions that bad id try to save it but if its popeye and not dropeye it is treatable. Just wondering how much they want for it?

No pics sorry, I'll put up a pic below but it doesn't show the right eye. Its being kept in great conditions, its about 30cm and is in a lightly stocked 5x2x2' tank. They're wanting around NZ$1000, they were retailing for NZ$1800.

For me its tempting if I'm going to spend that much on a fish to go all out and get a high-grade one, but my other half doesn't see it that way...

It might be popeye instead of dropeye,...I have a 20" silver aero and one of his eyes is always looking down, its cause when he was about 6 inches he had popeye at the petstore, so I got him for super cheap, treated it, and now hes fine,..the eye will never go back to how it was, and he has been like that for the last year and a half, but he eats and hunts fine, and doesnt ever run into anything.

sounds like dropeye not popeye since this^^^^ side is ok.

The aro's fins are nice but the body lacks color or shine....in the pic anyway. I'd have to see it in person to make a determination but based on the pics I'd stay away since it could be a banjar red.

I'd just save for a high quality one since yall seem to have access to them down under.

he only wants $900 for it now, i dont think you will ever find one cheaper

as for the DE, i wouldnt worry as my new aro kinda has DE too

it all comes down to if u like the fish... Ive had both silvers and rtgs with de and honestly my fav aro had de in one eye so bad his eye would roll... Didnt effect him day to day and he seemed perfectly happy... If ur other halfs givin u stick, just buy the cheap 1!
