If anyone where is using dropbox i would stop.

Anyone thinking about using cloud storage personally i would look at getting someone to code you up one yourself and use Amazons s3 storage, its very cheap and worth not having your data stolen or lost.

a) They encrypts your files on there end, thus they have the keys and can decrypt it at any time

b) the client uses a local database to authenticat, and uses JUST a machine ID and your email, copying that database to another machine allows un-authenticated blind access to your files

c) dropbox has no security audits from third party companys

d) there is no known screening process for employees who will have the keys mentioned above

Dropbox is fine as long as your not storing your personal files in it. I use it to share code snippets between computers that I develop on. Also, with developing your own Amazon S3 storage, Coldfusion 9's integration makes it super slick to integrate with it.

why wouldn't you just use a network drive?

and when a company makes claims like...

"Your stuff is safe
Dropbox protects your files without you needing to think about it."

...and is lying, I begun to not care what I'm going to use there service for and more about how im going to get my stuff out of there.

that makes sense, and in that case drop box would be great, and sounds like you're using it the way it was intended.

However, I think drop box is being used by people more so for creating offsite back ups...
