Dry ferts bought at hydroponic store

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
These days hydroponics is about more than simply weed.
You can buy a bottle or box of Osmocote plant food(sp?) and put it in capsules, that you push into the substrate near the roots of aquatic plants, for a fraction of the cost.

Osmocote Plus has been discontinued by the manufacturer so they can bring out new products. Here's a link to their page, look in the "Q & A" and you'll see it's being phased out.

So because it's being phased out I decided to go with regular dry fertilizers, and mix the micro ferts together with a small amount of Azomite which makes up for a complete micro fertilizer mix and fill -00- size capsules and bury them into the substrate.

Yes it is being phased out but they do have other stuff that works out there just as well. The nice thing about the osmocote plus was it had micro and macro for root feeders.

For a good set of dry ferts your going to need a micro nutrient such as plantx csm+b or another good one is millers microplex. Then you will need your macro ferts which are your npk. Nitrogen, phosphate and potassium. Its also a good idea for a root tab like the ones made with the osmocote plus or other stuff that works with it.

I like to dose the estimative index method as it supplies non limiting nutrients. This assures nutrient deficiency is not an issue while promoting plant growth.

I buy all my ferts in surplus sizes. Like 50 to 100lbs of each at a time. I pass on the savings to other hobbyists and locals who want to pick some up.
