Ok, I've got a Canon EOS 450D. (Rebel XSi). I currently have the lens that came with it, (18-55mm IS), a 55-250mm IS and the 50mm f1.8 Lens. My wife told me I can have one new item for my camera this Christmas. I was contemplating if I should pick up a flash, like the 430ex ii, (not the 580 ex because its too expensive). Or a new lens. For the lens I want one that's got pretty good light sensitivity, (somewhat like the 50mm f1.8) But I want to be able to have some kind of zoom capability too. What should I get?

speedlight.

FYI- canon nor really anyone offers zooms with higher than 2.8 max aperture, if you want 1.8-1.4+ it'll be a prime.

any focal length(s) your looking for specifically for a higher aperture lens?

i saw you already had 18-250 covered, unless you want an upgrade in that area....

Yeah, I was looking to get something along the lines of f2.8 in the same range.

Flash man......wireless transmitter down the road would be a great setup that you will have tons of fun with.....

That was the initial plan, I'm so excited.

nothing is offered in that total range, you'd need 2 lenses, one standard/wide zoom (canon offereing is the 17-55mm 2.8, and than a longer zoom the 70-200 2.8 L (IS optional),

17-55mm 2.8 is $900 roughly

70-200mm L 2.8 is $1000 roughly
70-200mm L 2.8 IS is $1500 roughly.

yep go with a flash.

get the speedlight 580, that way you can use it as a commander.
