So I am contemplating adding a second overflow. I'm using 1" piping and it doesn't seem to adding enough water into the sump. I'm using the quiet one 3000. The pump is good for 780 gph and from reading on the here a 1" pipe i good for 600 gph. If I were to add another 1" overflow It'd be way to much for the pump. Would a 1017 gph pump be ok for 2 2" overflows?

Is tying the 2 overflows into one 1" pipe before it goes into the sump the best idea? Wouldn't that slow down the flow quite a bit? I just want everything to run and work perfect.

The overflow(s) need to be able to flow more than the pump. They can't flow something that the pump didn't put in the tank in the first place. In other words, if the overflow is designed to handle ten thousand gallons per hour, but the pump can only flow one gallon per hour, the total flow through the system is going to be only one gallon per hour.

To answer your other question.... The amount of flow will depend on the smallest point in the overflow. For example, you could have 4 1.5" overflows on the tank, but if you combine them all to one 1" line, then it will only flow the capacity of the 1" PVC.

Feel free to double up the overflow per the pump. Most people like to have a little extra flow just in case.

Everyones going to make fun of me for this, I am sure. For the first few days the overflow was working perfect and was flowing more then the pipe can handle. The other night I went to turn the pump off and kill the overflow as I was worried the pump would burn out. I noticed something on the screen of the overflow. It was caked in hair. As soon as I pulled it off, the overflow started flowing like crazy. Every since it's been fine. Loud but fine. When I first got the tank I didn't have a cover on it and some of my cats or dogs hair must have gotten in the tank.

Nope, no reason to make fun. Things happen. If it makes you feel better, I've had mine get clogged with fish.
