I have an old Fuji mountain bike and I'm considering upgrading to the Trek 8.3ds which is one of those hybrid/dual sport bikes. My rides average 20 miles, 90% paved bike trail and 10% hard pack gravel. The Fuji is not the correct size which is the main reason I'm considering the upgrade. I'm curious as to how others who own or have have experience with this style of bike feel about them. I have no ambitions to go off road so I don't need a full on mountain bike. Any thoughts or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

i'm not into this stuff (not that i'd never try it for fun) but why's it called a dual sport bike? just curious

It's basically a mountain bike frame and bars, with narrower tires and geared for speed. The ideology is that they offer some of the speed and efficiency of a road bike and some of the comfort and capability of a mountain bike.

...and I thought he was referring motorcycles.

Sorry for the let down

LOL,no biggie.
