I have 2 29g tanks on a dual stand, one over the other, and its really getting old. Problem #1: getting larger decor into the bottom tank is impossible. Problem #2: its right at cat level and sometimes he decides to take a swat at the glass. Problem #3(and by far the worst): since its only a few inches off the ground, siphoning is really slow. The bucket is almost level with the tank so my vac becomes a pathetic trickle.

I have a 20gal stack and the worst thing is getting water into the lower tank. Its to close to the above tank to dump water in with a bucket, and there isn't a tap close enough to use a hose. Every time I want to add water I have to reverse siphon water back into the tank. What a pain in the arse.

Water changes with that particular tank can sometimes take 20 minuets. :irked:

Those double decker stands aren't what they seem to be. I hated the fact that they would advertise saying that it fits 2 29g tanks. I got one, but learned that it's good for a 29g on top and a 20g Long on the bottom. And siphoning is a PITA. I have a Python and would turn the hose on to make the suction stronger.

the trick is to double stack bigger tanks so that you never attempt to do anything with a bucket...
hoses and pumps for everything :)

I was running out of fish tank room so my husband built a TV stand/tank stand. There's a 75 g there now but room to put a 90 g. The tank is 8" off the floor but it still sucks to syphon because it's sooo slow. I'd sure like to stack 2 125's if I ever get the nerve to do it though.

man your one lucky dude!!! i still dream of a room like that

You might need to hook up a powerhead to your hose when changing water and remove water from the bottom ones that way. You'll need to gravel vac the bottom still though there are also battery operated vacs that might work. My tanks are all bare bottom so I have very little "gravel vacuming" that needs done. I'm not a huge fan of them but I have a couple because they're cheap and easy. So I share your pain.

TO EVERYONE WHO COMPLAINS ABOUT CHANGING WATER WITH DUAL STANDS~!!!

GET A PYTHON SO YOU DONT HAVE TO SIPHON THE LOWER ONE!! JUST HOOK IT UP TO THE SINK AND IT SUCKS OUT THE WATER!!
