My LFS in VA Beach recently got this unusual knifefish in that's labeled as a duckbill knife. $130 for it. It's definitely a Gymnorhamphichthys species.

lol, need more info than that. ;)
There are no Knives in that are a Gymnorhamphichthys species that have the common name "Duckbill Knife", how ever, there is a Knife with the Common name Duckbill Knife. :D
Parapteronotus hasemani.
Video, not mine. (Aka as a Dragon Knifefish, as said in the video)

Need some pics if that isn't it, or a better description. ;)

It was a lot paler than that. It's snout looked more pointed too. I'll get pictures next week when I go to turn in the job application. It doesn't like to show itself much.

Yeah, it looked a lot like that! What's their minimum tank size? I'm not getting it, there's no way I could justify or afford spending that much money.

Knew I'd guess it eventually, lol.
These guys only get to be around 10" at the Max, so a 55-Gallon would be a minimum, IMO.
Great Knife, but I don't blame you for not getting one because of the price, lol. $130 is more than I would pay for a Knife, but I like em cheap, lol.

Perfect size for my future plan! I'm either getting one of these or a centipede knife. It'll take a while before I can do this. Gotta get the gecko a new terrarium and a job before I can set the 55 up for aquatics.

lol, glad to hear it works out!
I have never had experience with this species of Knife before, but I have had experience with keeping a Centipede Knife, and I will say, they suck to care for, lol. They will only eat at night, complete darkness, normally only go after Bloodworms, and can get picked on by its tank-mates that are normally community fish. I had mine with Tetras and they ate its tail. Not a very 'gifted' knife, lol, but they lay on their side all day, motion-less. lol, of course it's your choice, but just thought I'd share my experience. ;)

The only centipede I've ever seen just laid there too. The pelican is much more active! The plans for the 55 once the gecko gets a new terrarium or passes on (he's 12 years old) is either a crested gecko setup (I have some nice plants growing in there) or an Amazonia biotope. The aquarium route will include (in consideration);
-pelican knifefish
-Apistogramma viejita pair
-a group of whatever unusual tetras my LFS has in stock
-Panaque maccus, or whatever odd pleco my LFS has that stays small and likes my water.
