So I thought it would be a good idea to get a bunch of duckweed for my 50gallon with 3 small longear sunfish.

I was under the impression that the duckweed would come to rest in the side of the tank that the filter is not flowing. But in reality the duckweed is just getting blown around from the currant.

The filter is an Aquaclear 110 on the low setting.
I am running a small sponge on the filter intake so the motor does not get clogged.

So a couple questions.

Are there any 'negative' effects of the duckweed being blown around the tank, minus the fact that it looks silly.

Will the duckweed just die and begin to 'spoil' the water?

Is there anyway I can create a still water part of the tank? Maybe some sort of surface divider?

I am wondering what if you guys thing that all the duckweed blowing around might 'bother' the fish.

Not great pictures, it looks like its just bubbles, but that is all duckweed.

Wow I've never seen that happen to duckweed before. I know that a strong surface current will tear that stuff up, but never seen it like that before! Maybe your water level is far too low, and the water from the AC HOB was falling too far pulling the Duckweed in, thus shredding it. Sounds right to me if the canister fixed it.

I'm still having a hard time picturing an AC110 disturbing the water surface THAT much... unless your water level is really low. But its most definitely not, according to your pictures. Glad ya solved it, Duckweed is usually awesome.
