i was thinking of getting some of this beautiful stuff for my 29g tank imma be planting but first i had a few questions. how will this stuff act with a hanging filter? and i know it will overun the tank but still it floats so i can just net it out cant i?
if u experienced keepers of plants could enlighten me that would be awesome much thanks

if you have a HOB filter (hang on back) then it will just stay out of that one section and just float around the other section, if it does come in the path of the filter output it will simply be pushed in the current going down and coming up to the top again

its rather hard to net it to me with experience because it would get stuck to the net even if u do swish it around in another bucket of water when removing. i found it easier to get a siphon and put in the water, start the flow, angle the sucking part up so it faces up and keep it right below water level so u dont lose flow and put it under the duckweed you want to remove and it works way better than netting

I always kept a divider on the surface of my tank with a small plastic piece so the duckweed wouldn't spread to the side with the HOB. I hated it when it would go near the outflow, shoot down under water then get sucked up by the intake. Then I'd be stuck cleaning all of it out of the filter.

It grows pretty fast but if you have a tank with goldfish im sure they would love to eat it. I used to bring home a ton of duckweed from my work and feed it to my neise's goldfish.

i heard they sell it by the grams lol

i havent had trouble with duckweed getting stuck in my filter intake. for the most part if u keep your water level high, the output ends up being more horizontal than vertical and it doesnt get pushed underwater. id get the larger leaf version as opposed the the small leaf version.

also if you planting the rest of your tank, keep in mind that if the duckweed takes over the entire surface that there will be substantially less light reaching the plants at the bottom. i also jsut scoop it out with my hand, no need to get it all tangled in nets.
