Quarantine Tank
:)

I was just wondering if i let some duckweed float around in my tank, would it help maintain a more healthier water quality?

I realize thats its a very small plant yet reproduces like krazee, so I was thinking that in a large enuf amount that it might make a difference?

Anybody ever keep it in a monsta tank b4?

Comments??? Suggestions???

I'm not sure what specific lighting or PH you will need to keep these alive in. However, I do believe they will help in decreasing Nitrates in your aquarium.

Someone with experience in planted aquariums will be around soon to help you.

it could help redice nitrates but... more than likely
it will cause problems with your filters*clogging it up* and it spreads like a
weed

Im also wondering how my fish would react to it. They would probably just eat it. Right now i have a...

silver aro
thin bar dat
silver dat
tin foil
half dollar
leporinus
gold sevrum
common pleco

da pleco would probably like it da most. :D

it might irritate the aro

Duckweed is easy to grow.. just some lighting and it will multiply a lot.It would definitely remove nitrates but still not as efficient as water changers of course. I doubt it would irritate the aro as it would just simulate a natural environment like in the wild. i personaly think it is a good addition to any tank except planted and provided it does not clogg filtration.

if u want duckweed u have to remember that the tank will be over run and have to thin it out as soon as it hits half the tank because it can harm the fish by not leting light through and oxogen thourgh. I have duck weed if u want some but u have to come and get it other wise i dont know how to get it to u pm me if u want some

I dont recommend it. It will cover the whole tank in layers many inches thick. It probably will just be a battle to try to keep it in control. Ive heard fish like it if u can somehow just keep a little in your tank.

my turtles love that stuff

i covered my whole tank with it (top of the water that is) and the turtles just ate it up. it lasted about 1 month
