i have a video camcorder that uses mini dvds but i have no idea how to get the videos to my computer. what program do i need/should i use and what file format should they be in?

you on a mac or pc?
your camera should have a USB cable that came with it. You can plug it into the mac/pc and record directly to the mac/pc
if youre on a mac, plug the camera in, launch imovie or quicktime, hit the "line in" option, then the red button and its recording to your hard drive.
On a pc, use whatever windoze movie program came with the computer & do the same thing, or you can record to the mini DVD, finalize it and then record off the dvd to pc using the computers dvd drive.
