I have a hospital tank that I think has been the source of a parasite issue that I'm having in multiple tanks. I want to dump it out and make sure it's clean and free of snails and set it back up so that I can isolate the weakest fish (many have the parasite, but a few might have other issues now) and treat them. The tank has been established for a long time so the sponge filter has the bacteria I want - but might it also somehow be housing the parasite? Because if that's the case I'll use a new sponge and just do a lot of water changes to keep ammonia down. But if I don't have to do that, obviously I'd like to keep my established sponge.

An unknown one, the one that gives the hollow/concave bellies to cichlids (eartheaters mostly) but doesn't seem to affect anyone else.
