How can we go about designing a standardized intelligence test for freshwater fish? I am Lord of the LOW IQ!
Mythbusters once did a test to prove goldfish had a memory that lasted more than 3 seconds by creating an obstacle course with food at the end of it and trained them to go through the course (video below)...
So i guess if you could recreate something like this, using a very large sample size with every type of fish possible, you may get a rough answer depending which species of fish was the fastest / slowest to learn the ropes so to speak...
Haha, that's brilliant. If you did make a really big one you could send hobbyists through the same course too. All the hobbyists would be at the fast end of the scale and the fish at the slow end. But I bet somewhere in the middle there'd be a crossover point where some fish were faster than the hobbyists!!!
Have a person (with a cut on them) start swimming through the obstacle course giving them a head start, followed by releasing a pack of hungry sharks and see which of the two reaches the opposite end first...
Nah, you don't need a pack of sharks, just one tiny candiru will do just fine!!!
