I've got a 75G tank with a corner overflow, and I got tired of the noise so I made a durso standpipe. It's now louder than it was. I think I may have too many air holes, I will plug some and try it again.
The bulkhead is 1", the pump is a quietone 3000, I estimate it does about 600GPH.
Check for salt creep around the air line, you can clean it out by rinsing the air line with warm water. You need to adjust the amount of air going into the durso to balance out the flow.
Also, check the output pipe into the sump, the standpipe needs a little back pressure to slow down the flow.
I always have a good luck with putting the pipe about 1/4" below water level.
if you have a more airholes than you need the dorso pipe will be nice and loud... same goes for not having enough... painters tape and a tooth pick is the best way to troubleshoot airholes that i have found... once you figure out the proper hole size you can then drill and cap it.. this is a lot easyer than drilling 10 caps before you get it right..
