Would a single or pair of dwarf crayfish--Cambarellus shufeldtii--be content in a 3 gallon heavily planted aquarium? Or perhaps a 5 gallon?

Easily. Either would be fine for a single or pair of Cajuns (or any other dwarf). ^_^

I am glad to hear that. I have always wanted some and am cycling a planted 3g right now. It was going to be for shrimp or for dwarf crays--I have never kept them before.

Any recommendations of a good vendor that can courier to Illinois?

Personally, I always recommend PAC (http://www.plantedaquariumscentral.com), because she's an excellent breeder and has reasonable prices with great shipping skills. You're always going to get good service and stock from her.

However, Cajun Dwarf crays are real easy to procure this time of year and you can find them fairly cheap on Aquabid.com, here on MFK and over on AC. Usually, they're selling larger groups, whereas PAC sells individuals. But it's something to keep in mind.

Thanks. I am out of town for a week. I hope when I came back the tank will be ready to go. I started it with established gravel so it is only having a mini-cycle. Then I will be ordering my new additions :)

You'll love 'em. They're such cute, funny little critters. ^_^
