planning on this being in a 40 Gal Long

first-
which will be easier to get a hold of (in michigan) crenicichla notophalmus or crenicichla regani.

second-
would this be an acceptable stocking list (over time)

4- Crenicichla regani (or notophalmus)
8- Hyphessobrycon columbianus (columbian tetra)
1- bristlenose pleco (or similar)

any suggestions, additions or subtractions?

planning on lots (as much as i can get) drift wood. some plants, and might have to filter through peat moss to get a low enough ph, but drift wood will help for sure.

also planning on running a AC 110
and then maybe a canister

reccomendations?

Regani are usually easier to find, the new wallacii from columbia are fairly common around here. Noto's tend to be the hardest to find.

The colombia tetras would work with any of the three, are great for the wallacii of course. Two pairs of any should be fine in a 4ft tank. Regani and wallacii can even be kept in 3ft tanks.

Lots and lots of driftwood, peat wouldn't be needed unless you were trying to breed the noto's. Can even do dwarf acaras or apistos as well. I do either dwarves or cories to clean up the frozen foods that hit the sand/gravel, dwarf pikes aren't the best at picking food off the bottom.

I keep all 3 species atm, so anymore questions shoot. I think soft turtle has regani and noto's too.

cool, so the cories won't be looked at as possible food for the pikes?
that was my one worry, i was planning on getting some but thought they might end up being eaten.

wallaccii. Approx same size and aggression lvls?

Not sure about the true wallacii from guyana, but the new colombian ones are similar to the regani in size and aggression. I did lose corys to them in a smaller tank, but no problems in the 3ft - 38 gallon. I would get one of the larger species though, but most other than the dwarf cory species should be fine. Their mouths in proprotion aren't as big as their realitives.

If the head of a fish will fit in their mouths, they most likely still go after them even if they can't swallow the whole fish. Most other fish are ignored if the heads can't be swallowed.

deffinately get a pair of reganis i think the tank would be too small for two pairs. it needs some more shoaling fish maybe b.h.t? they are pretty.
good luck and consider making it a planted tank.:headbang2

Don't know where in MI you live, but Fantastic Fins out near Livonia always has regani's, sometimes they get noto's in as well. Thats where i got my 4 regani's from and they are all really colorful and healthy. I would give them a call or stop in, great shop always has a good selection. A second stop for some dwarf pikes would be Oceans and Seas on gratiot and 10 1/2 mile in Roseville. They have some "dwarf white pikes" in, not sure what they actually are though.

dwarf whites??? Would they let ya take a pic of them? Am curious as all get out.
