In October I picked up a group of 14 EBJD juvies. They were all about 1/2" I picked the best one for my breeding project and sold the rest except for the two smallest. The smallest of the 3 that I have left has literally not grown at all. I see the fish eat 3-5x a day, she has been treated for parasites and is in a low stress environment with some guppy fry and some BGJD fry. My BGJD fry that she is in with are about the same size as her now. They were hatched on 12/6/11. She has rather large eyes but that is the only thing I can see that is abnormal about her. I've been hoping that she would start to grow but I'm beginning to think she's always going to stay at 1/2" The other one I have is about 3/4" with large eyes also, but at least this one has grown a little bit lol. Anyone have any insight as to what is going on with these 2 little ones? I can try to get some pictures if that will help. Just to make it clear, these guys were not bred by me.

large eyes make me remember discus when they are stunted. so maybe thats it they are stunted? but also the ebjd dont grow as fast as normal ones

I would jacked up eb jacks does not help the ebjd trying to get to a better level. I also had bug eyes and if you will not cull them your blue gene will take care of them.

They almost seem like they suffer.

Ive been told some EBJDs(very few) are dwarfs .Isaw 1 at a lfs that never got bigger than 2 in. in about a year .I asked about it and got that respnse.I dont know if this helps and really dont know the reliability of the info ....GOOD LUCK...!

I had this happen with a blue dolphin cichlid from lake malawi, I had the fish for a year and it never grew any larger than 2". it was perfectly healthy and ate loads and was in a 90g tank. some fish just are weird like this. I also had the same problem with a black angelfish that never grew any larger than 1".

also, I had some fry 3/4 jade eye cichlid 1/4 convict that I left in a grow out tank with no light, and they all developed larger than average eyes to see around the dark tank. the fry in the lit tank were all normal eyed.

Interesting. Thanks for all the replies! The larger of the two tiny guys died today. He had been looking a little off the last 2 days. Now I'm down to the tiniest one. She's got a great appetite and swims around happily with my other fry. It's crazy how the BGJD fry who were hatched on 12/6 are now the same size as this little thing considering she is months older then them!
