I was just reading about puffers, I don't currently have any but I miss mine, and stumbled across this topic. Apparently people are getting fahaka's that don't grow more than 6 inches. I understand there is a lot of debate over if it is from stunting at a very young age in holding tanks or is it a strange occurrence from fish taken from Lake Turkana. Does anyone actually have one of these? The idea of a 6 inch fahaka is really interesting but this by no means says I condone stunting fish to be able to keep them in a smaller aquarium. There's a huge gap in puffers from 40 gallons to 120 galllons.

I remember when this topic was debated on here, didnt really come to any solid conclusions, but would be interesting to see if any one chimes in with one?

Dwarf fahaka that is...

i have seen stunted fish before but tank size has nothing to do with it in my opinion..i have seen 18" dovii grown up in a 60 breeders and you would have never know it unless saw it.....i think stunted growth happens more often by lack of water quality not doing regular water changes.....

I had a fahaka in a 40 breeder for a year. I was lucky if he was 6in long. I was concerned that he wasn't growing fast enough so I moved him to a 75 with the ultimate plan of a 180 gallon. He lived another month and passed away unexpectedly. Never understood why he didn't grow very much. I waited for my life to settle down a bit (new house and a baby) and just set up a 225 for my newest fahaka who is currently 1.5" long. I'll let you know how this one goes!

My girlfriend has had her fahaka for almost a year from around 2-3 inches, her fahaka jaime is now around 4-5". Healthy, eating, swimming. She's in a 55 bow front since she's so small.
