Dwarf Giraffe Catfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have heard of them. Never seen one in person only in pictures. The weirdest thing is that they are more ideal for the average aquarist, but they are rarely imported and the larger cousin is seen more readily. But i like the original giraffe cat more. better coloration

never heard of em. can someone post a pic or something for me to see? i'm assuming they're african?

The big guys lose their coloration though. Too bad. They look awesome anysways

I had 4 several years ago before I gave them to a friend, very peaceful and VERY shy.

You say yours were peaceful, but the site says that they are aggresive and not suited for the community tank? The one I saw seemed to be very laid back (and I'm hoping he is peaceful), I wonder why the site says they are aggr. then?

Mine were in a semi aggressive "community" and then went to a 265 gallon African Cichlid tank, so my view on their behaviour might be a little off lol. In comparison with everything they were with, they weren't the least bit aggressive, mostly just hid.

After rereading the info on them, I see that the description of their behaviour definitely fits. Tends to be territorial and with it's predatory nature, not suited for the general community tank. Fares much better in an African concept tank with other robust fish. Not suitable with small fish. Mine did fight with each other for territory but never bothered anything else and I didn't have any small fish.
