I’ve been kinda missing a blue fish in my puffer tank and I’d rather not get a cichlid. The thought of a blue dwarf gourami popped into my head, as they are beautiful but pretty much harmless. I know puffers and gouramis typically aren’t supposed to be together, but my thoughts are that my amazons and a dwarf gourami are basically the least aggressive examples of their families. Tank is densely planted 36 gallon with some loaches, the 3 puffers, a bn pleco, and 6 serpae tetras. I’m not overly concerned about bioload considering nitrates are reading 0 and plants are showing signs of a lack of nutrients. If yes, any ideas on avoiding the iridovirus? If they aren’t compatible any other ideas for a small blue fish? Some tetras maybe?

Columbian Tetras usually aren't aggressive towards other species.
Dominant males will claim an area & chase away conspecifics, but will ignor all others.
Just a pretty Tetra, shaped like a mini piranha.

Maybe go for a group of Columbian Tetras. I keep a group of 12. Definitely a pretty blue & big Tetra.
Agree
beside being geographically correct and fast.
The puffers (being quite stealthy) may whittle down (chew off) the feeler like rays from unsuspecting and non-geographically correct gouramis.

Thought that could be an issue.
Any ideas on something more geographically correct that has a somewhat calmer demeanor than a tetra?
The water is somewhat hard and alkaline, so apistos are out from what I’ve read.
