dwarf green pike

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
actually id say 55gal..dwarfs are highly aggressive..and very territorially..id say 50 breeder would be nice cause of the depth...

really? for one dwarf, i think 50 gallons is over excessive.

With just one, i'd say no, a 55 isn't needed, but if there is anything else in the tank, I would have to agree. Those little bastards are mean man, well really territorial, but my Regani is just plain mean, to everyone, only fish it won't try is my Jag.

Crenicicla compressiceps are in a special class and cannot be expected to follow the rules that apply to the other Dwarf Pike Cichlids. The are very aggressive intraspecifically. I bought two groups of six last year and tried to keep them in my planted 100 gallon Discus tank with plenty of caves. In the end, I had 3 survivors which I recently got rid of.

Anybody that recommends a 55 gallon for six has not tried it and they definitely did not get a mated pair out of a group of six in a 55 gallon tank. If oe had a compatible mated pair, a 55 would be alright, but how one gets a pair of these vicious fish eludes me. They were peaceful with other fish including Apistogramma borelli adult breeders and even a school of Pencilfish.

I would advise you to work with any other species. C. notothalmus, C. regani and C. wallacei are all much easier to work with.

I just set up two pairs of C. regani for an attempt to breed them and they have only been st up for five days. I am gradually adjusting their water chemistry from my pH 7.4 and hardness of 110 ppm downwards to pH of 4.5 and 20ppm hardness.

They are in excellent condition from a diet of live blackworms and frozen bloodworms bt I would really like to be able to offer them a steady supply of Cichlid fry for this spawning attempt. I have a friend who breeds them in the Czech reoublic that swears by the live Cichlid fry conditioning method. It is based on good evidence that small Cichlid fry are a major componet of their natural diet. Apistogramma juveniles are their primary prey but they will not be getting my Apistogrammas.
Good luck with them. Except for the Green Dwarf Pike Cichlids the other species are very enjoyable.
