I saw some really cute puffers at Wal-Mart today, and I got to looking at them. The worker said that they were dwarf puffers, which I've always wanted (and have a 10 gallon available), so I picked one up. I got it home, and on closer inspection, I believe its actually a green spotted puffer instead of a dwarf puffer.

I will have a 30 gallon tank that will be empty in two months, so I'll be able to move him there then. My question is, will he be ok in a 10 gallon until then? He is currently in a 3 being treated for ick (ugh) and then he will be moved to the 10. He is an inch long (not including tail).

I also don't know much about brackish conversion. I do know he was being kept in a tank that was treated with freshwater salt instead of marine salt. Should I put him in freshwater salt now, then slowly acclimate to marine? Or does he need to start in marine now?

Thanks for the help.

You have to slowly move the SG up no more then .002 every week if you move it up to quick it will cause the tank to "cycle" again and i would try to get the 30 ready as quick as possible because they are messy fish and you will have to do a lot of water changes and keep a close eye on water parameters

He will not live long in the 3g. Go ahead & move him to the 10g please! You can easily treat him in there. Is it cycled? Get the SG up to 1.002 with marine salt, not aquarium salt.

He was moved to the 30 gallon Sunday, though it was cycled with freshwater salt. I thought I should wait to transition him. I was going to get him up to 0.002 salt today - should I go higher? The ick is gone.

If the tank is cycled, you can't raise the SG more than .002/week. How did you cycle it?

Its had tetras and barbs in it for over 6 months. And cory catfish. I cleared all of them out and moved them to different tanks.

Perfect! :) Yeah, do as I posted then.
