I need advice on how to plant dwarf hair grass, and can it be planted in sand? also how deep does the sand need to be?

thanks:)

i had some in sand for a while...play sand to be more specific....it did OK...it didn't die....but i did noticed that i was trying to spread and it had a hell of a time trying to do so in the sand.....i recently changed it all over to some aquatic plant soil....i guess i'll see how it does there......

i have some in my 125g and the way i planted it was with a large forceps (tweezer looking thing about 12") i got at my lfs. after breaking open the pot i would separate the hair grass into bunch of 3-6 stems and use the forceps to drive the roots into the ground but only about 1/4 inch or less depending on how long each was. my substrate is mostly made up of flora base with a 1/4-1" layer of rough sand on top. it's doing ok overall but i think the rough sand i used might not have been the best choice. all other plants are doing great so i've left it as is. the grass has done some spreading and overall i think it looks great but i've seen other peoples get much thicker and look more like a carpet.

i got some and it came in this weird stuff that almost looked like a clump of wet paper , so I ripped little bits off the outside till I got to the roots which where attached to that stuff so I just divided the grass in half and planted them

I have a carpet of hairgrass in my 54 corner tank. I bought it potted, took it out of the pot and planted it in 4 smaller clumps. I pulled most of the planting medium it was growing in off before planting. I just gently pushed it in the substrate (100% flourite). Two months later and the whole foreground is covered.

lol I just have sand so I don't think it's going to spread that well , it still looks nice though
