Are there any (moderately priced) variants of the Colombian Shark or Blackfin shark? My wife and I have a 50 gallon we are slowly stocking, and would love to have a couple/few of these guys, but obviously, there's a size concern, so I thought maybe we'd get lucky and there is a dwarf variety around...

If not, are there any suggestions for possible replacements? 50 gallon freshwater, sand and a few live plants. Currently 8 palateus corys and 2 male guppies.

The other problem is that Colombian sharks aren't totally freshwater. There's a reason you never see big ones, they need almost full marine conditions to survive as adults. I'd go with Pictus catfish myself.

Go pictus or synodontis. The salt issue with columbian sharks is a nightmare- requires whole new dedicated and costly set-up or a slow and painful death to your (adored) pet- which is where I am right now.
Mine was a gift so I've been waiting for this for a long (damned) time... selling these things in regular pet-shops is downright immoral.
