So I have read / been told that these little guys are b******** in a community aquarium but I have risked it anyway and brought one for my mainly south american set up. He is housed with sp Jurupari, sp Lecousticta, geophagus altifrons, orangehead tapajos, heckili, some corries and some lemon tetra......and I am quite surprised he has been absolutely fine with all the fish, very mild mannered!Should I expect him to turn aggressive as he grows and becomes familiar with his surroundings or have I just genuinely got a non aggressive specimen?*

Here he is (looking a little full after nailing a load of frozen blood worm)

Pikes are usually aggressive with each other, and fish they might attempt to swallow.
I keep a number of pike species with Geophagines, and a few other higher bodied cichlids without incident.

I kept mine with dwarf cichlids much smaller than your stock and they did fine. However, they did kill a couple of JD's 2-3x their size before I went with the dwarves. The jacks weren't smart enough to leave the pikes alone and kept starting fights, and the pikes ended the fight real quick like.

@shawe1 - I think that nasty attitude is more conspecific with most specimens, but can definitely carry over to anything in the tank. I've known a very experienced pike keeper to introduce 8 comps into a 125g tank on Friday, and by Sunday he only had 1 left.

They also don't get much bigger than 4 inches. Yours looks like it could be that big in the pictures.

@duanes - What's the pike in the first pic?

He should be fine. I kept 4 of them with 4 c. Regani in a densely planted 150 gallon with various other dwarf cichlids, angels, festivums, and tetras and all was fine.

It's a young Crenicichla sp. bellycrawler female
I got her at a gcca cichlid classic (Greater Chicago Cichlid Assn) auction with a number of her brothers and sisters, she ate most of them, as she is/was the largest of the bunch. She's been non aggressive with all other species of cichlids she's been housed with.

Wow. My belly crawler was an absolute terror. He would go out of his way to attack the other fish. He would swim across the aquarium, strike at someone, then swim back to his cave on the other side.

He seems very mellow so far and generally mingles with the geos. Mine is still smallish not much bigger than 2 inches
