Shore do look a lot like notos...;)...awesome! Where did you get them? Don't see them around that much!! Got at least one female...so hopefully they will pair up if the other is a male! AWESOME!! Thankz for posting some pics. of the wee little ones! They get my blood pumpin!

I got 3 pairs of them from Capitol Aquarium in Sacramento CA. I eventually got some others 6 from the same whole seller from a local pet shop (Much cheaper). I traded 2 pairs and some small males to Jim at mainlycichlids.com. I have one big male now with a gravid female (swollen red belly) with a sub-adult female and small male. I am hoping for a spawn soon. I will try and get some more photos of the big male and female.

They look like the undescribed species that is going around right now, Cr. sp. "Orinoco". True nothophthalmus are still next to impossible to find. Jeff Rapps brought the sp. "Orinoco" in about 2 years ago and has recently been selling them again. It stands to reason that if he's bringing them in they're coming in from other sources as well. They do exhibit the red oceli associated with nothos but the males lack the spikey dorsal fin that male nothos are known for.

Cr. sp. "Orinoco" would be my guess. Pics of your male's dorsal fin erect would help in ID'ing these fish.

Thats the same fish I bought, sold as regani at my LFS. I was having difficulty ID'ing them as the female has the coloured ring and the male lacks the separate front dorsal rays.

Thanks:)

Vinny's site is terrific and he really knows his pikes. My guess is that it is one of the many geographic variants of C. regani.

This is one of the reasons pike are so awesome...their variety within the same species. Its also another reason it can really be a pain to ID them. Three suggestions as to what it is, not entirely sure who is right. Main thing is you have some AWESOME pikes...you should be very proud! ;)
